Overview #
Moving an existing WordPress site to Xponent is a handled process: we do the heavy lifting, you provide access and decisions. Most migrations complete within a few days with zero downtime.
The Migration Process #
- Kickoff: you tell us about your site (hosting, plugins, special configurations) and share access to the current host.
- Assessment: we audit the site: plugins, database size, custom code, anything unusual.
- Replica build: we build your site on Xponent infrastructure and test it thoroughly on a staging domain.
- DNS switch: when everything verifies, we flip DNS and issue SSL (see Pointing Your Domain to Xponent).
- Post-migration check: we monitor the live site, verify forms/email/functionality, and close out.
What We Need From You #
| Item | Why |
|---|---|
| Current host access | To pull the site files and database |
| Registrar access | For the DNS switch |
| Plugin license accounts | If any plugins are licensed to you (we’ll advise on the Xponent alternatives) |
| Email provider details | If your email is tied to the old host |
What We Handle #
- Files, database, uploads, and configuration transfer
- SSL setup and DNS
- Compatibility checks against the Xponent Stack
- Replacing non-standard plugins with stack equivalents (or flagging them for best-effort support)
- A verified backup of the new install immediately after migration
During the Migration #
- Your old site stays live until the switch: no downtime.
- We communicate progress at each stage.
- You review the staging replica before we flip anything.
